Disaster recovery drill failing

$

I'm trying to recover a Mailbox Server totally from scratch in a closed Lab Manager environment. Besides Exchange this also includes the entire infrastructure.

Here's what I've done so far:

- Installed DNS-server (same name and ip as in production) and imported zones from our production environment: No problem
-Imported image-backup of one of our virtual domain controllers to server in Lab Manager.
Seized all FSMO roles and made it a Global Catalog Server: No problem
-Installed a new Exchange Mailbox Server (same name, ip and disk layout).
Reset it's computer account on the DC: No problem
Joined the domain: No problem
Installs the Exchange 2010 pre-reqs: No problem
Starts the Exchange 2010 setup with the /m:RecoveryServer-switch
And here's the problem, setup fails with the following error:
Cannot specify installation mode because no Exchange server is installed on this
  machine. Install Exchange Server.
Server is not found in Active Directory. Server must be present in Active Direc
  tory to recover.
Exchange Server setup encountered an error.
The DC I imported to Lab Manager don't have any of the FSMO roles in production, and is isn't Global Catalog server. Can't this be the reason why I'm experiencing this problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Best regards Klaus Ringe Nielsen

Missing attachment [Fixed]

Fixed using the following:

Exchange Server 2010

1.      Stop the Exchange Transport service.

2.      Locate the EdgeTransport.exe.config file. This file is located in the following path:

<drive> :\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Bin\

3.      In the EdgeTransport.exe.config file, add the following entry between the <appSettings> element and the </appSettings> element:

<add key="TreatInlineDispositionAsAttachment" value="true" />

4.      Restart the Transport service.

We have a problem when receiving emails from a particular sender. The problem is that the attachments don't show up in Outlook 2010 or OWA, but if you view original message in OWA you can see the attachment.

I managed to intercept the mail using our Barracuda Firewall and Antispam and save the message as an EML file. I have noticed the problem lies with:

Content-Disposition; inline; filename=Oak.jpg

If I change this to

Content-Disposition; attachment; filename=Oak.jpg

and resend the message I can see the attachment. I SP2 and Update Rollup 4-v2 for Ex 2010 SP2 installed.

I already read the other posts in this forum regarding this error and checked the permissions.

UserA which has opened the shared calendar of UserB has the access rights "AvailabilityOnly". So UserA can open the calendar normaly and see when UserB is Busy, Out of Office and so on (no details).

If i disable the "Download shared folders" setting in "Account Settings -> Choose Exchange Account -> More Settings -> Advanced" the error disappears.

But sometimes the user wants this information be available offline. Is there any other way to fix this issue?

Thanks.

Search-Mailbox -DeleteContent - some messages not deleted.

I'm trying to clear out old emails from our Journaling mailbox which have been moved to a PST file. I am using the following command:-

Search-Mailbox journal -SearchQuery "Received:< $('01/10/2012')" -DeleteContent

The first time command was run, all but 18 messages were deleted. However, no matter how many times I rerun the command, ResultItemsCount = 0 and the 18 messages remain.

Is there a particular type of message which can't be deleted with this command?

TIA

Outlook anywhere NTLM for internal users and basic for external users?

$

Hi,

Have some thoughts on Outlook Anywhere (and perhaps Autodiscover)

from my understanding the externalclientauthentication/internalclientauthentication values are provied to the client using autodiscover?

what determines the choise of auth? lets say a request comes in to contoso.local and that one is configured on the internalhostname property it would use the auth method of the internalclientauthenticationmethod value?

and if a request comes into contoso.com and that one is stamped on the externalhostname it would use the value on the externalclientauthentication method?

and if both internalhostname and externalhostname is set to the same value?

So if looking at our current Outlook Anywher settings on a CAS server

# Get-OutlookAnywhere CAS01\rpc* | fl

ExternalHostname: company.com

InternalHostname: company.com

ExternalClientAuthenticationMethod: Ntlm

InternalClientAuthenticationMethod: Ntlm

IISAuthenticationMethods: Ntlm

eventhough I can set IISAuthenticationj using PS to both NTLM and basic that is just for IIS right.

How should it be configured so that external users (having outlook installed at a home computer not AD joined) to be able to access the mailbox? Would we need IISAuthentication set to both basic and NTLM and let TMG/UAG handle the authentication on DMZ?

Similar posts sayng that both cannot be enabled? But is that for both internal/external users?

Deleting items from outlook stil in box

We have currently 1 exchange 2010 server on a SBS 2011 server. No other exchange servers are in place.

When we connect to exchange with outlook 2003 and for example delete a mail, sometimes it deletes the mail right away some times the mail still shows in outook. When switching folders it seems to dissappear. When tryning to delete a 2e time we get an error.

So the is in both cases deleted, but somehow exchange does not refresh the outlook view rigth away, maybe because the exchange server is busy? But we run it on a DL380 G6 server with 32GB mem.

The only other tasks it perform is WSUS and AD and printing and we use the Inox pop connector.

NOD Eset 5.x is also running.

Any one any idear what is causing this?

H.

Another autodiscover question

Hi - I've exhausted the internet & forums trying to fix an OOF issue. Here are the symptoms:

Exchange Server 2010 SP1 hosted mode, also separate CAS Array

Outlook 2010 64bit

Certain users can access OOF. I see an autodiscover.xml file downloaded to their profile folder.

Certain users who are on the same server (citrix environment) same application of Outlook 2010 can not.

The Olkcas log is useful but I'm not sure where to go

Log from user that works:

My searches keep pointing me at the legacy DN but these are the same for users that work and those that dont. I've tried recreating mail profiles but this does not affect the result. I'm assuming autodiscover is working as the xml file is pulled down each time i delete it from the profile of a working user. Permissions are set to authenticated users, I've even tried everyone.

Any ideas anyone?

Kind Regards

We had set up hub transport rule and it only add signatures at the end of all

I will study some tools, like those below.

Does anyone know another one or have some comments on these?

Exchange 2010 vs BB migration

we have hosted mailservices with yahoo and moving to exchange 2010. All failover mechanism is ready for mailbagging and antispam is configured. When i point my mx from yahoo to my mail server and failover will there be any impact on BIS plan users? We have 30 users having BIS configured with our mail domain which is in yahoo and when it is moved from yahoo to our own mail server will there be any impact?

We too have bes server configured with exchange 2010, is there anything i should do with to bring my BES server live, do i need to contact RIM or when i change the mx and other dns records on public dns automatically all my BES client will be able to retrieve the mails.

I also want to move all 30 users to BES plan, we have airtel as MSP.

Appreciate response and advise.

Exchange accepting email from 2 different domains and delivering to the same user - configuration question

$

0

Hi,

We are running Exchange 2010 SP2. All our users live in the same AD domain

Current scenario:

We have a domain named 123.com. We use Postini to filter traffic and the MX records are configured in the 123.com zone to point to Postini, then Postini routes email traffic to our CAS servers.

We are trying to acomplish the following:

1.) A group of our users are going to have to use a new domain name abc.com instead of the 123.com

2.) They will need to get their email delivered through 123.com and abc.com while the 123.com is gradually decomissioned. The 123.com email delivery will last for 30 days and while this is happening we want to configure an automatic reply back from the system with a message that informs about the email change to the @abc.com and instructing them to send to the new domain instead of the old.

3.) Exchange users will have to send email with the @abc.com domain instead of the @123.com domain and they will continue to receive email on 123.com domain for 30 days.

Questions:

What needs to be done in order to get #2 and #3 configured?

Certain users unable to print the body of emails, sent from Outlook 2010

We've been running Exchange 2010 for over a year.  This issue popped up yesterday.  We have a few users sending text based HTML or text only emails, from Outlook 2010, to other 2010 users.  All users can view the text in the body.  However when certain users receive the email, they can only print the header of the email.  None of the body prints.

We've tried converting the HTML text to text only, the body does not print.  We've printed to email to PDF, the body displays in the PDF file.   We had the sender try to print the email from her sent folder, it does not print.

Hello,

What is difference when you setup the message limit in

Setting limits in Organization Configuration | Hub Transport | Global Settings tab |Transport Settings | properties | General tab.

                                                    Vs

Setting limits in Server configuration > Hub Tranport > Send or Receive Connectors

Why are there two places to set those limits?
