Modifying receive connector performance

I have a client with a web database server sitting on an SBS 2011 box that pushes email notifications through Exchange server using a receive connector called AllowRelay using a script.  If you try to send a single email, it works ok.  But if you try to send many, the script that sends the emails times out with this error:

"The maximum amount of time for a script to execute was exceeded. You can change this limit by specifying a new value for the property Server.ScriptTimeout or by changing the value in the IIS administration tools."

My gut feeling is that I need to modify some parameters to allow the burst of emails to be delivered to the receive connector.  Also, the webserver is communicating with the receive connector anonymously listening and receiving from 127.0.0.1.

The client recently upgraded from Exchange 2003, where it was working fine.

Does anyone have any ideas?
