Removing unused Exchange 2010 server from domain

Hi Y’all,

OK my issue is very specific.  I started a new job as IT Manger.  My predecessor was hell bent on building a new Exchange 2010 server and so we did that.  A few days passed and I realized that the domain was had to be redone from the ground up.  Meaning that there were 2 DCs that ran 2 locations and also served as Exchange (2007), File, Printer, ect… servers.  I upgraded the domain to a virtual environment.  We installed VMware 5.1 on 8 blades in the following topology: 4 blades in each location, 2 clusters (domain servers and utility servers) of 2 blades in each location.  The domain clusters are 8 sockets total with 32 Gigs of ram in an HA cluster.  The utility clusters are 16 sockets with 128 Gigs of ram.  Each site has a SAN that has 14.6 Gigs of usable space.

Here is the problem.  Our infrastructure is about done and I’m building a Virtual Exchange 2010 server with a 500 Gig LUN attached to the SAN.  I will then migrate our 2007 server to the new V.

The Exchange 2010 server that I built on a stand alone on my 2nd day needs to go.

I’ve read a few threads and none really address a healthy superfluous 2010 server.  I also wasn’t clear once reading a dozen pages or so with similar issues if my 2007 server or new VS will get hosed in the process.

Thanks…01
