Exchange 2007 to Hosted Exchange 2010 Migration

We are hosting our exchange server. Our current server is 2007 and we are moving to hosted 2010. The company bring a server inside the organization and install their server and add as DC as they explained they need DC in their server because we wanted Active Directory Sync to the mail server. We have pretty large database. In the middle of migration, the database get corrupted and we had to recover it from backup which seems ok.

We wanted to keep up our 2007 box but they said, they will not be able to give us 99% uptime because 2007 will talk to 2010. So they will have to cut the 2007.

Now the migration is almost finish. They want Cisco - Cisco level VPN connection to our network from their network. They want to setup the connection to our Cisco firewall.  We have our Windows VPN server setup already and all remote people can simply connect using the VPN connection. But they are saying AD replication need Cisco - Cisco VPN connection and standard Server VPN connection will not work. I am struggling how correct is their comment. Why AD replication won't work on standard VPN connection to our network ? Any idea please ? I just dont like the idea of changing anything to the firewall exclusively only for Exchange hosting to outside.

Thanks
