I'm having trouble doing an initial backup after a long time of no backups. There are over 200,000 log files and the whole database directory is over 200GB even though the database file is only 25GB.
Every time I set a Full VSS backup something seems to go wrong. The server just locked up early this morning for no reason after the backup was going for 9 hours, not sure the cause of that. Before that it was doing a consistency check for over 9 hours and I think it was canceled. The progress bar looked like it was only 1/4 way through.
Is there an advised way to proceed from here? Maybe setting the logs to circular to cut them down in size then put them back to normal, then will I finally be able to make a successful backup? How long would the circular logging process take for 200GB?
