How to unlock Outlook 2007 PST?

$

Someone suggested me a manual method which I can use to unlock my Outlook 2007 PST files if I lost and forget the password. I used it but was unable to complete password recovery query. Below are steps which I had used.

  • Open Outlook mailbox and select specific folder from where users want to remove duplicate Outlook items.
  • Now, select view menu, and move to the current view and then, change the folder view type according to user’s requirement.
  • Click Right on column heading and after this click on Field chooser option.
  • Select all mail fields from field chooser option and then, drag the modified field to table heading.
  • For checking the duplicate items click on modifies sort fields. Then, view the list of duplicate items.
  • Select any file that users want to remove and the, click on shift + Delete button to delete permanently from Outlook.

I want to know is there any another manual method via which I can reset the password Outlook PST file. I already got the solution from the post:How to Remove Password From Outlook PST files. but I am seeking for manual method.

Large Mailbox Unusable

We are in the process of transitioning from one email archiving solution to another. There is no direct ingest from one solution into another thus we must rehydrate content back into Exchange to rearchive. The project is almost complete and we are now working on rehydration of our journal content.

I have a separate journal mailbox that is the target for the rehydration and our new archive solution could not keep up with the amount rehydrated into. I now have a mailbox that is just under 1 TB with 6.9 million messages in it. The mailbox is practically unusable. I tried running mailbox exports for a subset of messages (by month) but these have failed. I also tried running a mailbox search and delete (similar to purging messages from target mailboxes) with no luck. Logging onto a machine using the journal AD account cred and manually moving content to another mailbox just hangs.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this mailbox in a usable state? Our Exchange is 2010 SP3 RU 11.

Thanks in advanced!

John

Transport Rules and regex NOT operator

$

Hello all,

I'm trying to create a transport rule that basically adds some text to the subject line if the from address is NOT in a particular list of domains, however I can't seem to find any documentation that Exchange transport regex support the NOT operator. So far I've tried it with one domain:

^((?!mydomain.com).)*$

with the intention being that if the message doesn't come from mydomain.com then it'll have some text prepended to the subject, however this doesn't work.

Does Exchange transport regex support the NOT operator and if it does can anyone help explain how to use it?

Queue cleanup and re-submit emails

Hi Guys

I wonder if you could help here. I had a recent incident where an Exchange 2010 Server has been subjected to an "authenticated relay attack" due to one of the user accounts being compromised. I have identified the compromised user and reset password etc.. which resolve the issue. I also had to rename the Queue folder to Queue.old and created a new Queue folder in order to resume the service back to production asap. The Queue.old folder still has spam emails and expected to have some legitimate emails as well. Is there anyway of "selectively" exporting emails from Queue.old folder so that I can re-summit into the queue again?

Thanks for your helps in advance.

"RPC/HTTP Proxy\Current Number of Unique Users" - can't find users from IISLogs

HI,

I am trying to trace the users that is connected using Outlook Anywhere.

Based on the CAS Server's perf counter "RPC/HTTP Proxy\Current Number of Unique Users", it shows that there is 19 users connected. However, when I check the c:\inetpub\logs\logfiles\w3svc1\[today's logs], and searched for "MSRPC 200", it does not show any user.

Is there other logs that I should be looking at?

OWA not working in 2010 with new 2013 server

$

If I direct owa traffic (https://mail.domain.com/owa) on my router to the new 2013 server, OWA appears.

Somehow OWA is broken on 2010 because if I direct the same incoming owa traffic to the 2010 server, OWA gives a 403:

<<
This error (HTTP 403 Forbidden) means that Internet Explorer was able to connect to the website, but it does not have permission to view the webpage.
>>

I turned off "Require SSL" for owa and the "Default Web Site" on the Exchange 2010 server and it works, but WITHOUT https. I need https for security.

Can someone help me on what to check? Not sure where to start.

When accepting an meeting invite the answer is sent to multiple uninvited people

Hi All,

Setup is an hosted exchange 2010 server environment with DC/CAS/HTS and MDB roles on separated servers.

I have a strange issue with one of our customers.

They have created a shared calendar in thier organisation administrator account and shared it with their colleagues.

When a meeting is created with an attendee a meeting request is sent to the attendee.

When the attendee accepts the request the reply is sent not only to the administrator but also to 3 other uninvited people within the organisation.

We have checked various permissions and delegates and are unable to find a reason why this is happening.

Can anyone point me in the right direction ?

Kind regards,

Klaas-Jan

Unable to edit/delete/create Active Sync Policies

Hi,

we do have a Exchange 2010 SP3 RU21 System running on Server 2008 R2 since many years. Since years we do have 3 Active Sync policies which globally allow our devices. Now we wanted to enable the Active Sync Quarantine. For this we deleted the Device Rules and changed the global Setting to "Quarantine". (BTW: The devices which should be allowed were already set to "Individual")

After about 30 seconds all changes we made are gone and the original setting is again there.

We tried the following:

  • Change the Settings in /ecp
  • Change the Settings in Powershell
  • Change the Settings in ADSIEdit (CN=RuleName,CN=Mobile Mailbox Settings,CN=ForPe01,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=domain,DC=local
  • Tried to create new AS Policies (they will be deleted automatically)

There is no corresponding Eventlog when the setting is set or reversed to its default.

Any ideas whats causing this and how to fix this?

Domain Controllers are Windows Server 2012 R2 Fully Patched

Thanks!

Good day Sir/Madam

User managing Exchange contacts for another user with Full Access Permissions

I have some truly bizarre behavior in Outlook. I have a user who is creating contacts for another user, where she has full-control and send-as permissions for the other user.

The contacts weren’t there after she created them. Right off, I’ll mention that this problem didn’t happen for another user who also has the same permissions. Here is the rest of the behavior:

  1. Doesn’t happen for another person (as mentioned before)
  2. Doesn’t happen if she creates a contact for herself
  3. Still happened after creating a new Outlook profile (wasn’t a corrupt profile)
  4. Happens for another account she has permissions for in addition to this one
  5. The contact is created and if you are fast enough, you can see it in the contacts folder and then it disappears
  6. It isn’t in the deleted items folder
  7. It isn’t in any other contacts folder (for any other person)
  8. The problem follows this user to another machine where she logged in for the first time ever (so entirely new Windows and Outlook profile).

I've tried some other things which I could list, but it still remains unsolved.

Any ideas out there?

Thanks

Log drive is almost full but not with logs. Please help.

Hello -

Having a problem where one of the log drives for one of our mailbox databases is getting full. However, they are not getting filled with logs. The drive is about 100 GB and when I checked only 500MB is actually log files. Would you know what the other say 85GB is? and how do I fix this? Please let me know.

I need to add that we do run a backup nightly that truncates the logs. This is the reason that we do not have too much logs.

Thank you -

Cannot send email on Exchange Resource Forest Spanned between two domains separated by WAN

$

Hi All,

Our Exchange Server resource forest environment spanned on two AD sites consisting two DAG, two mailbox and htcas servers on AD site A , and also two mailbox and htcas servers on AD site B. This environment hosting email for 3 domains. All accepted domains configured on Internal Relay. It works until we experience WAN disconnected for long time between two sites. While disconnected, email from domain C (which servers located on site B), to domain A & B (which servers located on site A) cannot be delivered, still queued on htcas servers on site B, and vice versa. If email sent from domain C to Internet, we have no problem because send connector for Internet configured to Ironport on site B.

While WAN disconnected, I tried to create new temp send connector on htcas server on site B, for send email to domain A & B , pointing smart host to the ironport IP on site B. I assume htcas server will deliver email to IronPort and then IronPort contact the mx gateway of domain A&B through Internet. After creating send connector, restarting MS Exchange transport service, tested sending email from domain C to domain A&B, IronPort still not receiving email from htcas server. Instead, email still queued on htcas server. How can we set DR plan on this scenario, if WAN disconnected, user domain C can still send email to domain A&B via connector through IronPort on site B, and also user domain A&B can still send email to domain C via IronPort on site A? FYI, domain controller of resource forest that hosting all fsmo roles located on site A.

Thanks for your support.

Disaster Recovery and Exchange 2010

$

Hello, I have a question about a DR strategy when it comes to AD sites and services and Exchange 2010.  Long story short, we replicate our stand alone Exchange server to a failover facility, but not the domain controllers. Instead we opted to deploy a new DC in the failover facility so it was already online and available in the event of a Disaster.  The idea being that if it was an extended outage, we would just seize the roles and move on.

The only gotcha is that this DC we built in the recovery facility is part of a different Active Directory Site.  All over the Exchange documentation it states how important it is to have a Global Catalog server in the same site as Exchange, otherwise all goes wrong.

So, I guess in the event of a disaster I would likely log into the failover Domain Controller (which is a GC) and move that server to the same site as Exchange.  Then hope like hell that Exchange's topology discovery process would find this DC in the same site and come up and run.  At this point it is unclear if you can make a change like this to sites with your primary FSMO role owner offline, so it may take a seize operation before.

Thanks for reading, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Adam Tyler

Sending using Alias

Hi There,

I cant seem to find a solution for this. I am looking to find if there is anyway to send as your alias for example.

test@abc1.com

test@abc2.com

We currently use Microsoft Exchange 2013 with most of our users on Microsoft Office 2010 as their mail client.

I have read that this is by design however is there any way to get this to work other than creating an additional mailbox or shared mailbox for each alias and set forwards back to the main account?

Is this somthing that is resolved in newer versions?

Thank you :)
