potential impact of having multiple shared calendars connected in Outlook 2010 using Exchange 2010
Hi. We have an office of about 50 users who like to have all personal calendars shared with all other members of the office. What potential performance impact is there on the individual Outlook profile as well as Exchange in general in having so many active shares?
Thanks.
Exchange 2010 Standard to Enterprise Key Upgrade
Hello,
I have an Exchange 2010 Standard Public Folder server that has a database that is around 900GB. A few articles mention that the max DB size is 1TB for Exchange 2010 Standard.
Can I apply my Exchange 2010 Enterprise key to this server to allow this DB to grow past the 1TB limit, or do I need to create a new server with Exchange 2010 Enterprise installed and move the DB.
I appreciate an information anyone can provide on this.
Thank You
Network usage spiking between exchange and outlook port 1191?
I have a client who runs Exchange 2003 in house and uses Outlook 2010 – they have asked me to look at some network speed issues
The network is slowing down every time outlook is opened on a client and analysing the network shows traffic between exchange and outlook on port 1191 which spikes and uses 100% bandwidth – never come across this port before and wondered why it might be spiking for exchange/outlook communication?
Any thoughts

Email from one company failing with size limit restriction, but no restriction set
We have one company that is attempting to email some of our internal users some emails with 15+ MB attachments. They are receiving an NDR concerning size restriction limitation which definitely appears to be coming from my Exchange 2010 server.
I am pulling my hair out trying to find where this is failing. There are no limits set at the global level, none at a site level, there are some on Receive Connectors but they are all set to 100 MB, and none on the individual mailbox.
What makes this even more bizarre is that I can send these same internal users an email with a large attachment from my Gmail account and they receive it fine.
The message tracking log is not showing me much of anything.
Is there any more detailed logging where I might find exactly where along the line this email is failing? Reaching a breaking point.
email user missing folder after migration
After migrating mailboxes from our Exchange 2007 server to Exchange 2010, I have one user who is missing an email folder where he saved all the emails he sent. He named the folder "Outbox" which had subfolders where his saved all his sent messages. If the user replied to a message he sent, he saved the received message (as well as the one he sent) in a separate folder so there is a lot of redundancy. If the user replied to his original message, he has a record of what he sent based on the conversation. However, if the user did not reply to his original message, he doesn't have an audit trail - namely the original sent message which was located in the "Outbox" before the migration. I hope that makes sense. Can anyone give me a clue as to how to recover his "Outbox" or why it didn't get migrated?
Deleted Items Retention Policy Tag Not Working As Expected
Hello
I have two main retention policy tags configured and enabled in my default retention policy
I have added several mailboxes to the policy
The two tags are:
Archive after 90 days (all items) - action is to move to archive after 90 days
Delete after 90 days (deleted items) - action is to delete and allow recovery
The issue is that deleted items are being moved to the archive! which is not what i want to happen, i do not want any deleted items to be moved to archive only deleted
Not sure what i am missing here
any advice would be greatly appreciated

Exchange 2010 UM Voice mail contact
We have an exchange 2010 SP2 UM server , one of the user has got lot of contacts with mobile number in outlook saved as +61xxxxxxxxx ( 61 country code for australia). So if one of the contact tries to contact him he gets a message saying that he got a missed call or voice mail from 0xxxxxxxx instead of saying that contact x has left message.
If I change the mobile number of contact on outlook to 0xxxxxxxxx then he would a message saying that contactx has contacted.
Any way this can be sorted out with out user changing all his contacts.

Default offline address lists missing OAB3a and OAB4 folders under public folders
Our OAL is missing OAB3a and OAB4 folders. Outlook 2007-2010 is working fine across the domain but when I try to download the address book I get the err 0x8004010F object cannot be found. Also BPA is reporting that these folders cannot be found.
Is there a way to re-create them ?
Thanks,
Best Practice: DAG and AutoDatabaseMountDial Setting
Hi,
I am working with management in my organization with regard to our DAG fail over settings. By default, the fail over setting is set to 'Good Availability' (missing 6 logs or less per DB). My organization did not feel comfortable with data loss so we changed it to 'Lossless'.
Of course, we had a SAN failure and we lost a DAG member and nothing failed over to the surviving DAG member. Even eventID 2092 reported the same log sequence for many databases yet the surviving DAG member did not mount. Example:
Database xxxmdb28\EX-SRV1 won't be mounted because the number of lost logs was greater than the amount specified by the AutoDatabaseMountDial.
* The log file generated before the switchover or failover was: 311894
* The log file successfully replicated to this server was: 311894
Only after the SAN was restored and the surviving server came back did another 2092 EventID get logged stating the log sequence was not 311895 (duh! - because the database got mounted again. )We opened a support case with Microsoft and they suggested no databases mounted because the surviving DAG member could not communicate with the non-surviving member (which is crazy to me because isn't that THE POINT of the DAG??). Maybe there is always a log file in memory (?) so AutoDatabaseMountDial set to lossless will never automatically mount any database? Who knows.
In any case, we are trying to talk ourselves back into setting it back to 'Good Availability' setting. Here is where we are at now:
2 member DAG hosting 3000 mailboxes on about 36 databases (~18 active on each node) in same AD site (different physical buildings) w/witness server
AutoDatabaseMountDial set to lossless
Transport dumpster is set to 1.5x maximum message size
What level of confidence can we expect we will not have data loss with the properly configured transport dumpster and a setting of 'Good Availability?' I am also open to other suggestions such as changing our active-active DAG to active-passive by keeping all active copies on one server.
Also, has anyone experienced any data loss with 'Good Availability' and a properly configured transport dumpster?
Thanks for the guidance.
Outlook / OST behaviour after restored database
Hello everyone,
I've tested restoring an Exchange 2010 database with a DAG lagged passive copy of that database.
The thing is that after the restore Outlook (2010 SP1) still shows data that was on the old active copy because that data is in the OST file, if I open OWA I no longer see that data (which is what I expected to happen in Outlook).
I've read that the OST may no longer sync to Exchange but that's entirely true in my case as the emails I now send through OWA are shown in the sent items mailbox folder in Outlook and I can send through Outlook and see that in OWA too. Knowing that data in Exchange takes precedence over the data on the OST, why doesn't the OST deleted the old information?
Can somebody enlight me?
Thank you very much.
Cannot share calendars in OWA after 2003 -> 2010 migration
Last year we migrated all our users to 2010 from 2003. Migration went well and everything seems to be working well. The problem is when a user that was migrated from 2003 wants to share their calendar with a new user that was created in 2010. In Outlook2010 they can click the link in the email and it adds the shared calendar to their calendar list. However in OWA when they click the "Add this calendar" link they get this error: "This folder couldn't be opened. You might not have permission to open it, or it might not exist anymore." But they can manually add the calendar by going to the Calendar page and right-clicking and adding it by hand. This only happens between an ex-2003 user and either another ex-2003 user or a new 2010 user. The link works when a new 2010 user shares their calendar with another user(ex-2003 or 2010).
I've been trying to find a solution and so far I seem to be the only person with this type of problem, that or my google-fu isn't up to speed. :)
thanks in advance
Matt
Discovery Mailbox - unable to open in OWA or Outlook
I assigned a a user to the Discovery Management Role group and have given him full access permissions to the Discovery Search Mailbox. The search works and finds results. If I try to open it as another mailbox in OWA it states the mailbox cannot be found.Microsoft Outlook cannot access the specified folder location. If I try to open the mailbox by opening another mailbox within OWA, it does not resolve the mailbox name. I cannot open it as another mailbox in Outlook either.
I have verified in ADSIEDIT that the user's account is part of the Discovery Management group members as I have read that this can sometime happen where ADUC shows the membership but its not really there.
I've also created an entirely new Search results mailbox and have the same issue with it.
This is turning into a real problem as the company is behind on its compliance searches.

What is:
Organization Configuration
Server Configuration
Recipient Configuration
and where do we create users and enable and disable and day-day work like in the AD users and computers in 2003
We have 2 HUB Transport servers and 4 mailbox servers with DAG. I want my helpdesk level 1 person not to be on every server but one where he can do day to day stuff.
Thanks
